Local birder and artist Andy Maguire takes us by the hand and leads us through the streets of East London to discover hidden sites where despite the development, the birding is still good.
Come and visit my patch, Wormwood Scrubs in West London. Within sight of the Millennium Wheel and only a few miles north of the Thames, The Scrubs is a vast expanse of parkland comprising 180 acres of playing fields, copses and woodland. Expect to see usual summer visiting warblers, a small population of Meadow Pipits and passage Wheatears and Whinchats.
Situated fairly close to central London this large area of parkland is a mecca for tourists, lovers and scratch game footballers alike. But even in this heavily populated area there are quieter spots to be found especially near the Long Water and The Serpentine. Look out for Treecreepers, summer visiting warblers and waterfowl.
This incredible place never ceases to amaze. It's more than 40 hectares of created wetlands near the heart of London. Every year it gets better and better. It's also a great place to bring a non-birding partner because if it's cold and wet they can relax with a cup of tea in comfort of the cafe!

West London Urban Birder David Jeffreys takes us around the little known urban jewel that is known as Holland Park. Steeped in history, this beautiful park is rarely visited by birders- though there is plenty to see.
