Jamaica Bay

Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge - Urban Mission

For the serious birders out there this is a hotspot not to be missed when travelling to the Big Apple. Covering over 9000 acres this urban wildlife reserve is a prime spot for birding with its marshland, wooded heathland and riparian habitat that has attracted over 300 different species of bird from Carolina Wrens to Snow Geese.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens - Urban Hour

If time is short and you only have an hour to spare "do lunch" in Central Park or Brooklyn Botanical Gardens where vireos and wood warblers compete for attention with joggers and fellow "darlings". The bonus of birding in key city parks like these is that you can often get a lot closer to urban birds that have become accustomed to the hustle and bustle of city life.
