Urban Conservation

The cities which many of us inhabit are a bit of a strange dichotomy. On the one hand, their very existence has meant that millions of acres of wilderness have had to be obliterated to make way for civilisation. Conversely, despite all this destruction there are pockets of habitat in some cities, either remnants of the past or man made, that can sometimes sustain remarkable amounts of wildlife.

These places can be home to populations of birds that you would not expect to see in a city. Of course, these areas are invariably under acute threat from development and need our protection, so tell us about them!

If you would like to highlight the plight or enthuse about the successes of a particular species, send me a short piece about it and put your story on the world stage.
